Registration is Open
(Updated on 03/12/19)
Tournament Director: Mr. David Jacome
The tournament was named in Honor of our good friend Larry Hackney.
Welcome all players of 3.5 to 4.5 Ratings. If you are unsure of your level, please check with David to get a self United States Tennis Association (USTA) rating by hitting at the park or visit a local Hudson County New Jersey or New York City Pro Shop to get yourself evaluated. We follow the NTRP Rating System, https://www.usta.com/en/home/play/play-as-a-member/national/usta-league-faqs.html
After much consideration, we have decided to allow two formats: the best of 3 sets, and 10 game pro set.
Please be aware that if you report a higher rating, this can affect your position in the bracket, and the possibility of facing a seeded player in your first round match.
Forfeits are recorded as 6-0, 6-0. Please commit to playing the tournament during the dates listed. If you are unable to play during these dates, please do not register. In previous years, we extended tournament time, but it's unfair to all participants who followed the rules. Professionalism and sportsmanship is the first pillar in having fun with tennis.
Note: Please do not register if you are above a 5.0 as it will be unfair to other players. Also, if you are a beginner player, below a 3.5, you are not qualified to play at this tournament. (You will be removed from the bracket at the Tournament Director's discretion)
We follow strict guidelines and reporting on the network. Upon submission of scores, please email all players, and the tournament director, by the end of your match. At times, we forget to report the score, and days pass, so disagreements may occur. The best recommendation is to report on time and be accurate with all details of your match to avoid situations.
We also have the Type B Hackney Cup which is for players 2.0-3.0 rated players.
Last year we were unsuccessful in getting High School Students to volunteer as Line Judges in all important matches. This year we will try again to recruit local students to help us with organization of tournaments, especially on the weekends and for good lineups.
The high school students will be given free entrant to the Type B tournament for their service to our network.
Also, if needed, we have score cards, which will keep the accuracy of scores reported. Some players have indicated they want these on the court to accurately keep track of the points.
This is the first tournament of the 2018 Season for members of the Hudson County New Jersey Tennis, Inc. The tournament is free for all community players, and members. We do recommend players pay their yearly fees around this time so you can participate in all the season tournaments following the Hackney Cup.
The yearly membership fee of $30.00 is payable in cash, credit card, or PayPal.
Notice there is only main draw. So, if you lose the first round, the tournament is over for you. Single Elimination Rules do apply. Eliminated players can choose to create a loser's bracket if enough players are interested please let the tournament director know.
The schedule of play will become available once we have confirmed the all players for this draw.
The Main Draw Tournament concludes on March 30th, so all matches need to be finished by this time. A champion is awarded his trophy at the conclusion of the tournament. Since players requested trophies be presented at the conclusion of a final, they will be given to players without engraved names.
At times, the trophy presentation can be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Our trophy provider is located in New York.
* Times are flexible and subject to changing depending on availability of your opponents and weather permitting. If opponent doesn't respond in three attempts, they automatically forfeit the match.
To schedule a match against your opponent, you can either call them, message them, or inform the Tournament Director:
The Tournament Director Mr. David Jacome, he can be contacted him directly on Global Tennis Network. The tournament director cannot participate in the tournament due to conflict of interest.
He can arrange a proper time for both of you and make any necessary accommodations during the tournament dates. Only the director can submit a forfeit on behalf of a player not being able to play due to an injury or emergency. Please make sure to inform on time, and not the day of the scheduled match.
In rare situations where David cannot communicate with you, please contact Carlos Iza. He is willing to help secure court space, and help with any questions.
Best of Luck to all players.
